An American alternative rock band that emerged in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1989 around singer and bassist Mark Sandman. Its self-styled 'low rock' rested on an unusual guitar-less line-up - Sandman's two-string slide bass, Dana Colley's baritone saxophone and drums - until Sandman collapsed and died on stage in 1999, ending the band.
